Com 250 Discussion #4

The first thing I want to talk about is the current state of the nuclear problems in Japan. I heard recently is that the level of the problem had been upgraded to a seven out of seven. It had originally been rated as a five. According to what I heard, that means that it went from a problem like Three Mile Island to a problem like Chernobyl. That is a really big jump if you ask me, and it makes me wonder how they didn't know that right off the bat. I heard that quite a few experts said right away that this disaster was going to be worse than Chernobyl but yet officials were claiming that it was not all that bad. I just hope that the Japanese people can come back from this like they did after the US nuked them in World War II. The people who lived in Hiroshima and Nagasaki kept living there even after the bombs were dropped. I don't know how this rates compared to the bombs but I hope it doesn't come down to the same thing.

I read recently that Obama has said that Congress will reach an agreement about what to do about the budget soon. All I'll say about that is I'll believe it when I see it. I have never know Congress to ever do something just because the President says that it will happen. I doubt that Congress would agree on anything, even if it was going to war after we had been openly attacked by another country. They just seem to enjoy arguing about stuff because it means that they have less work to do. I'm of the opinion that we should lower all of their salaries. They get paid way too much money to do a job that almost anybody could do with far less problems. The worst part to me about this whole situation is that it is both parties causing problems. Most of the time it is either the Republicans or the Democrats that are causing problems, not both.

I've heard that things are heating up even more in the Middle East. Things are not going well for anybody in Libya. The rebel forces are not making any gains and the pro-government forces are getting more pressure from NATO. I don't think that the pro-government will be able to keep going for much longer before NATO decides to really get involved and send in a major force to unseat Gadhafi. I also heard that the protests in Syria are getting even bigger. With any luck these protest will not lead to the same thing that is happening in Libya.

Com 250 Discussion #3

So I'm sure that most of you have heard that the government might shut down for a while. The first part that is strange to me is the services that they are choosing to keep running. Some of them, like the CIA and military, do make sense to keep running but I heard that the IRS is going to keep running. That doesn't make any sense to me what so ever. They are almost completely useless even when they are getting paid. The reason is bugs me is that the military is expected to keep working even though they aren't getting paid and may not ever get the back pay they deserve. I think that if Congress is going to let this happen, then they shouldn't get paid either. Its a load of crap. If they are willing to let government services go without getting paid, then they shouldn't either.

The worst part is that it is not just one party that is causing the problem. Both Republicans and Democrats are causing these parties. It seems to me that they are trying to do it on purpose to see just how much they can annoy the rest of the population. Neither side will back down on anything and they are just letting this happen. I figure our best bet to solve this problem is for all of us to go to D.C. and sit around outside the Congress until they come out. Then we make it clear to them that if they don't solve this within the next week, then they all lose their jobs and we solve the problem for them. There are enough smart people in the country that we should be able to figure it out.

I heard recently that Japan got hit by another earthquake. The first thing I gotta say is when are they going to catch a break. Stuff just keeps happening to them for no reason. I hope that they get a break soon. They have lots of problems on top of the earthquake.

Com 250 Discussion #2

So while I know that its not a national problem, I want to start with the purposed law in NC about allowing guns into clubs and resaturates. I gotta wonder who came up with this genius idea. Lets see, lets put two very volatile things, alcohol and guns, in the same place and see what happens. Now I understand that there is more to it than that but I'm just saying, really bad idea. While I'm sure that most people would be responsible and wouldn't cause a lot of problems, we have to face the fact that there are a lot of stupid people in the world and a lot of guns in NC. If this law passes there are going to be a lot of problems. Drunk people and firearms do not mix in any situation.

I'm sure that most people are aware of whats going on in Libya currently. I am really pulling for those rebel forces to win in their fight. I know that the US has pulled a lot of our military support out of the fight, which is both good and bad. Its good because it means we are less likely to get draw into a long fight over there. Its bad because the Libyan rebels really need the extra punch that comes from the US bombing the government forces. With any luck, the rebels will be able to handle whats going on and will win the fight with a minimum of casualties. They are fighting for their homes and their basic human rights. I can't think of anything that would motive people more.

Something I just read recently informed me that there is some violence going on in the Ivory Coast. Apparently around 800 people got killed in a major city there. The violence is between the forces of the UN recognized president and the current president who won't leave office. This is the first that I've heard of any problems in that area even though it has been going on for a little while now. I guess that this is because we as a country don't really have any interest in the Ivory Coast. I really hope that this doesn't turn into another civil war.

Com 250 Discussion

The first crazy news thing going on in the world is whats going on in Japan right now. As I am sure that most people are aware there was a massive earthquake and then a tsunami that happened right after. Among the things destroyed was a nuclear power plant. Due to the loss of power the plants have leaked radiation into the surrounding area. I think this is crazy. I would have thought that such a dangerous kind of power plant would have lots of redundant systems that could deal with these kinds of problems. I know that Sharon Harris lake is designed to be able to flood into the nuclear power plant that is situated near the lake. I would have thought that the Japanese plant would have been able to stand something like this, especially since earthquakes and tsunamis are more common there. However, I can understand that there really is no way to be able to prepare for something like that.

Another thing that is going on is the fact that the US may be about to go to war with Libya. I know that we launched some missiles at them the other day in response to something that they did. Now everybody is fighting over what should be done, and there is a lot of dispute about the US involvement in the conflict. I do know that some democrats are backing what Obama did and are supporting him in the US helping to enforce the no-fly zone over Libya. I think this is maybe most likely a bad idea. We are already involved in too many conflicts in that area of the world and don't really need to get stuck here as well. Especially since other countries are also get involved. If some of the others are going to take care of it, we should not need to go there.

There is a lot of crazy stuff going on in our country and around the world today. I really hope that we start getting our act together so that nothing bad happens to us. We are heading down a dangerous path that we need to wary of.

Dolls House Characters

I don't really like any of the characters from the play. They all seem to be complaining when they don't have any real reason for it. The only character that I really liked was Mrs. Linde. For all of her complaining, she has some real reasons to be sad. She was forced to take complete care of her mother and two brothers and married a man that she didn't love so she could take care of the family. When he died she got job after job to support her family. Even though she complains about life, she is a hard worker who seems to be able to get what she wants with some hard work. I also like her because she is able to slow Nora down some. Mrs. Linde is a calming influence on Nora that Nora really needs.

March Madness and NBA

Normally I am not a real big fan of college basketball. I really only pay attention during the tournament or when a school that I like is playing. I only really follow NC State and UNC. I have been a State fan for years, and my old basketball coach got me into UNC. I got disappointed this year during the ACC tournament because of how easy UNC and State got knocked out so early. I know that UNC had a hard games both times but normally they would never have lost to Florida. They normally beat pretty much everybody that they go up against. Last year they dominated everybody that they played right up until the Final Four when they lost to Kansas.

This year already looks to be a repeat of last year. UNC beat Radford 101-58. This is what it was like last year during the tournament. They destroyed everybody that they played, and every games they won by more and more. UNC seems to be trying one last time to get to the title while they still have some of the really good players. Hansbrough is in his senior year so he will be done after this year. Lawson and Ellington could follow him this year, but they could also stay. If they both go then UNC could be in some trouble next year. They always draw pretty good recruits but that does not really mean anything. They can't be good all the time.

The NBA is really heating up this years. Dwayne Wade and Lebron James are both going all out as the season comes closer and closer to the tournament. The Celtics, the team that I normally root for, can't seem to win most of the games that should be easy. But at least they seem fine mostly now. I can't wait for the NBA finals, they are going to be really good this year.

Paper Topic

I decided to do the second paper topic because it makes the most sense to me and it seems the easiest one to do. I find that it is easier for me to break down characters and look at plot points than it is to find imagery. I like analyzing characters and looking for the motivation behind why they do the things that they do. Checking out the theme of the story should also be sorta fun. Also, I think that this might be the only topic that I can easily make the minimum limit of words in the paper. I would have a hard time writing about the other two topics.

I have serious writers block and can't think of anything to write.
